Hi, I meant to leave my name with my post last night. People are still raving about the cake today :)

The other recipe I need to try sometime is the one you have for using Guinness in beef stew... I'd think of that more for autumn or winter, but I'm not sure I can wait that long to taste it.

And the Guinness cake recipe may supplant my usual brownies as my outdoor potluck item to bring... although, speaking of which, I think you posted a Guinness brownie recipe, too, didn't you? I'll read that recipe sometime soon as well!

Thanks for your recipe from before about the Guinness cupcakes. I made them as a sheet cake last night and took it into the office for St. Patrick's Day.

It was a big hit! The cake was dense and moist, sublimely chocolatey with a rich, deep flavor accentuated by the Guinness (people were tickled to learn about the "secret" ingredient) -- and the espresso frosting, ohmigod, it's only by a feat of superhuman will that I'm not making up an extra bowl of espresso frosting to slather on every edible thing within reach! The fragrance alone of the frosting is a hook, and the taste, yum yum!

In short, it's a good thing I cut myself a piece of the cake before I set it out for the rest of my appreciative officemates, because by the end of the day that cake pan had been scraped clean.

Thanks for the info! It's a real keeper, and one I'll be sure to make again, St. Paddy's Day or otherwise.
